Dudhia, Darjeeling – 30th May to 2nd June– A high-intensity karate training camp was recently held in the serene landscape of Dudhia, Darjeeling, led by the internationally acclaimed martial arts master Hanshi Premjit Sen. This specialized camp, held once every year, is designed exclusively for karate instructors, with the goal of updating and upgrading their knowledge in kata, kumite, and kihon—the three core pillars of karate.
Hanshi Premjit Sen, one of India’s most celebrated karatekas, is a 8th Dan Black Belt and the first Bengali to be certified as a Grade “A” Judge and Referee in both Kata and Kumite by the World Karate Federation (WKF) and Asian Karate Federation (AKF). As President of the Karate Do Association of Bengal and Founder of the Global Seishinkai Shito Ryu Karate-Do Federation, he has been at the forefront of karate development nationally and internationally.
His students have consistently brought pride to the nation by winning medals at the Asian Karate Championships, Commonwealth Karate Championships, South Asian Karate Championships, and various National Championships—testament to his effective training methods and commitment to excellence.
The Dudhia camp saw participation from a diverse group of instructors and advanced practitioners, including senior black belts up to 5th Dan, and even a black belt over the age of 60, showcasing the timeless dedication karate demands. A strong contingent of black belt girls also attended the camp, highlighting the growing role of women in martial arts.
“As instructors, it is absolutely essential to continue learning and evolving. This camp is my effort to ensure that teachers are up-to-date with the latest technical and tactical developments in karate so they can give their best to their students and athletes,” said Hanshi Premjit Sen.
He added, “Women empowerment is of utmost importance to me. Karate builds confidence, self-respect, and strength. It’s inspiring to see so many women black belts training with passion and purpose.”
The training sessions covered advanced kata, kumite techniques, kihon fundamentals, and teaching methodology, creating a powerful blend of tradition and modern competitive insight. The focus was not only on performance but on how to teach more effectively, passing on the essence of karate with accuracy and integrity.
With the tremendous success of this year’s camp, Hanshi Sen continues to strengthen the foundation of Indian karate through mentorship, education, and leadership.
