After Men, Indian Women’s Team Win Olympic Test Event. This is what Women empowerment is..
After Indian men’s team, now the India women’s hockey team has joined the party and won the Olympic Test Event by beating hosts Japan 2-1 in the final.
Navjot Kaur (11th minute) opened the scoring to put India ahead but the lead was neutralised within a minute as Minami Shimizu (12′) scored for the hosts.
Lalremsiami (33′) struck the winning goal for India. India dominated the early exchanges and it showed when Navjot Kaur opened the scoring with a fine finish to give India the breakthrough in the 11th minute. However, the lead didn’t last long as Minami equalised for the hosts to make it 1-1.India’s prolific drag-flicker Gurjit Kaur stepped up to take the execution, but her shot was saved by the Japanese goalkeeper Megumi Kageyama.
However, the rebound fell to India’s young forward Lalremsiami, who did not make a mistake in putting the ball into the back of the net to make it 2-1 for India.
It turned out to be the winner as India won the Olympic Test Event. India’s men’s and women’s hockey teams will be hosting their two-legged Tokyo 2020 Olympic qualifiers in October and November after having missed out on automatic spots at the Asian Games last year.
