Arjun Munda to contest for Archery Association president
The Tribal Affairs Minister in the Union Government, Arjun Munda has yet again jumped into the Archery Association of India elections. He will reportedly be contesting for the post of the AAI president.
Munda enjoys the support of the faction backed by the former Archery Association of India president Vijay Kumar Malhotra. The group claims a majority support in the Indian archery administration system.
The AAI elections are scheduled for January 18 at the Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi.
The former Jharkhand Chief Minister, Munda had also contested for the AAI president’s office in June last year when two rival factions had gone into separate elections simultaneously. In the elections slated for June 24, Munda-led faction had organised the poll process in New Delhi, while incumbent retired IAS officer BVP Rao, who was forced out of the AAI president’s office in May last year following a Delhi High Court order, had organised the elections in Chandigarh.
This all had happened amidst world body’s threats to suspend the AAI. The World Archery had warned the AAI of immediate elections if the two factions went to separate elections. WA-appointed mediator, Asian archery body’s vice-president Kazi Rajib Uddin Ahmed Chapol had failed to broker truce between the two factions.
Now the Delhi High Court-appointed returning officer PK Tripathi has circulated an election notice for January 18, when the voting will take place to pick one president, senior vice-president, vice-presidents (8), secretary, joint secretaries (7), and treasurer.
The nomination process will be completed by January 6.
