Big Update in Weightlifting Ahead of the 2028 Olympics!

In a significant move, the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) has announced new weight categories for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, removing the 49kg division — the very category in which India’s Mirabai Chanu clinched a historic silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics. 🥈

With this change, Mirabai will now have to either move up or down in weight to continue her Olympic journey. For the moment, her full focus remains on the upcoming Asian Games, after which a strategic decision will be made regarding her participation in the 2028 Games.
