The Sports Authority of India (SAI), under the aegis of the Government of India, recently conducted the Selection Trials for the Indian Karate Squad for the upcoming official international events, including the prestigious Asian Games, at Shillong, Meghalaya.
It is a moment of immense pride for Bengal that Mr. Premjit Sen, a renowned Karate Master and senior official, has been appointed as a Jury Member for this important selection.
Mr. Premjit Sen is a Senior Referee in the World Karate Federation (WKF) and the Asian Karate Federation (AKF). His appointment as Jury Member reflects his long-standing contribution, technical expertise, and leadership in the field of Karate at both national and international levels.
The Selection Trials were graced by the presence of Sh. D.K. Mittal, Executive Director (RC Guwahati), and Sh. Triratna Chavan, Deputy Director (STC Shillong), from the Sports Authority of India. Their inspiring words, encouragement, and guidance contributed greatly to making the event a grand success.
The event was efficiently directed by Sh. Sunil Rathee, High Performance Director, Khelo India State Centre of Excellence, Shillong, Meghalaya; Tournament Director; former National Champion; and SAI Coach. His dedication and meticulous coordination ensured the smooth and professional conduct of the selection trials.
It is also a proud moment for Bengal that Ms. Debanjali Karmakar, the Golden Girl of Bengal Karate, secured 2nd Place at the Open Selection Trials conducted for forming the Indian National Karate Squad, in preparation for the upcoming International Tournaments, including the prestigious Asian Games.
Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Premjit Sen expressed his heartfelt gratitude and said:
“It is indeed a great honour to be entrusted with this responsibility by the Sports Authority of India. I am committed to giving my best towards the growth and excellence of Indian Karate at the international level.”
